Secret Ingredient is…

Categories: cooking |

In an effort to save money, I’ve been using the ingredients that I have on hand to cook dinner. This means cooking my staple items to make the usual go-to recipes. After all, being adventurous and trying something new often means buying new ingredients, and that really starts to add up. However, while cleaning out the pantry, I’ve stumbled upon several unopened packages of unique items that were originally purchased for new recipes (that I’ve since misplaced).

Currently the list includes:

  • Star Anise
  • Juniper Berries
  • Oyster Sauce
  • Chili Sauce
  • Spring Roll Paper

My goal over the next month is to use these items. Anyone have any ideas or experience with them?

I’m pretty sure star anise and juniper berries are in the brine I use for my Thanksgiving turkey, and it makes for a delicious bird. Otherwise, I have no ideas…

Chilli sauce is good for making a brisket or ground turkey sloppy joes. Maybe you could use the spring roll paper as a pastry in some way and add cinnamon and sugar? Nor sure about the rest… takes some thought

so i could be sleeping or i could be writing like i promised myself i would. but instead of stalking your blog… is a fun site. you add all of the ingredients you have (or you’re trying to get rid of) and they show recipes that are all pretty easy.
